ABOUT

Micki Chomicki Gallery is the only exhibition space dedicated to contemporary fiber and textile art in Antwerp. Located in the city’s artistic fashion district, we promote art that — thread by thread, fiber by fiber — carries forward the legacy of a historically, predominantly female avant-garde.

The gallery is fully committed to a fundamental exploration of the language, signification and codes of fabric and fibers. Materials like felt and lace, embroidery and tapestries are not decorative here. The are soft on the surface, razor-sharp underneath.

With six solo exhibitions per year, we break through the polished and the safe of a comfortable art scene. Our exhibitions don’t just catch your eye - they shift your perspective. Activism, identity, and aesthetics intertwine into a vibrant visual manifesto.

Meanwhile, in the patio, local artists are free to express themselves on a mural project called The Wall.

Here again the deconstruction of artistic hierarchies takes another step forward.

Plurality of voices, tolerance, diversity and mutual respect are the basis of a democratic society. In this sense, the Micki Chomicki Gallery speaks out with its programs and in everyday interaction against racism, anti-Semitism and Islamo-phobia, ableism, age discrimination, sexism and queer hostility, violence and every form of hatred and discrimination.
